Where Did Steven Crowder Go Wrong?
To those that are sadly unaware of Steven Crowder, host of Louder With Crowder, an online political-comedy show, Crowder essentially plays the right-wing version of Jon Stewart or Trevor Noah, only with far funnier jokes and skits. I grew aware of him around early 2015 due to his spot on and hilarious analysis and mockery of the far left and their contradicting beliefs, hypocrisy, and views of the world. However, with the rise of the Trump phenomenon and his unapologetic minions, there has been a drastic change in Crowder’s vibe and political message in the show, although to be fair his humor remains undeniably spot on.
Steven Crowder is not one to shy away from letting his viewers know about his right-leaning political bias, but having a slant to your political message is hardly the problem with Crowder lately. If you see any of his recent clips on his YouTube channel, he has basically become a contrarian about anything the left believes no matter the message as long as it’s against the left. Take his recent AID’s video, where he argues that unless you are a gay man having anal sex with other gay men, your chances of contracting AID’s are essentially zero. Needless to say how unbelievably wrong, dangerous, and ridiculous that is, it only shows his slide further from conservatism and closer to a muddler of the waters, which he attacks many on left of being.
But Steven Crowder’s main fall from conservatism and into the cultish Trump train came from his video on James Comey, where instead of focusing on the clearly bi-partisan screw up on Donald Trump’s firing of James Comey, he decided to get upset at everyone else instead with a light brush on Trump himself.
Don’t take my word for it, anytime Trump messes up majorly, you are seldom to ever find Steven Crowder criticizing Trump the way he does everybody else, even those on the right. I’m fairly certain this is not because he doesn’t see Trump’s screw ups for what they are, but rather, like those he hates so much on the left such as Trevor Noah with his lock-in-step approach to the left, so too is Crowder following right behind the Trump train. However, unlike Noah who can believe wrong things with seemingly self-agency, Crowder simply espouses things I suspect he knows are wrong because he has become a Trump stooge. Perhaps I’m wrong, but one look at his videos’ comments you’ll see where 90% of his support comes from, so maybe to keep the lights on he has no choice but to ignore Trump’s enormous mishaps or simply rely on “whataboutism,” that he just took over the recent white supremacist incident in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Here’s an open window into many that follow him.
But yeah, keep harping on the left because when this Trump train derails, it’ll be interesting seeing how you’ll either A) ignore your past coverage of Trump or B) say you’ve suspected it all along, which is why you so obviously avoid any hard stances with him, lest you alienate your audience either now or later. The biggest shame, however, will be the missed opportunity that Steven Crowder had in becoming the voice of reason in these explosive times. SAD!
