The Girl With A Different Person Growing In Her Tumor
When doctors removed a tumor growing inside a sixteen-year-old Japanese girl’s ovary, it left them scratching their heads in confusion. Imagine for a second, being a trained doctor. You know, for the most part, what to except whenever dealing with tumors. You know that the tumor afflicting this teenage girl, affect many others her age and that it’s fairly common. The tumor “mature teratoma” is a type of ovarian germ cell. You know that like most people with this type of tumor, they are simply cysts, that once removed, fix the situation.
However, when doctors entered the ovaries of their patient, they found a ten-centimeter tumor which had it’s own brain and clumps of greasy hair, all of this covered with a thin layer of a skull. Doctors even found a cerebellum inside the tumor. As you can imagine, the level of collective pants shitting in that operating room was detectable from the morgue in the basement.
What those doctors found was that essentially, this sixteen-year-old teenager was growing a whole different human being inside one of her tumors. Although it is common for hair, teeth, and even bone to be found inside tumors, a working and operating brain are much less common. Also, issues raised with this strange tumor would be obvious, are you killing whatever other person was growing?
Sean Grady, chairman of the department of neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania says, “The tissue elements found in an embryo are there, like hair or glandular structures, but it’s not like there was a development of an initial human.” However, regardless of Dr. Grady’s opinion, many others in the medical community say the fact the tumor grew to the point that it grew a brain, already means that statements like Grady’s are naive in making.
As for the young girl, who was victim to her tumor hostage-taker? With the tumor completely removed, she is living a healthy life, free from giving birth to a creature that was holding her life in its boney claws.
